Appetite for Excellence
Appetite for Excellence was founded in 2005 by Lucy Allon and Luke Mangan, as they recognised that the hospitality industry needed to sustain and support the next generation.
Originally, the awards program was to identify and encourage emerging, young, qualified chefs, therefore maintaining and developing the future of the Australian hospitality industry.
Since 2005, Appetite for Excellence has evolved to include young chef, young waiter since 2007, and now young restaurateur since 2009, creating a holistic awards program that rewards all aspects of the industry. Electrolux Appetite for Excellence is the only national restaurant program in Australia and is judged by a National panel of over 20 of the most successful chefs, restaurateurs and industry leaders.
Our mission is to inspire, educate and nurture the emerging talent who are the future of our industry by providing money can’t buy education, opportunities, and experiences. These young people will ultimately be responsible for sustaining and hopefully improving upon Australia’s reputation as one of the world’s leading food and wine destinations. Our future vision is to expand our engagement with the general public to build awareness that the hospitality industry is a viable career profession and provides many rewarding opportunities.
